Diet Culture Can Go Suck a D**K!

Hello beautiful people I'm MrsG! I have been on ATW for almost 3 months and I am well and truly addicted, to say the least. Not only is All Things Worn a platform for sellers and buyers to explore their kinks in a judgement-free zone, but it's also a space where we can talk about important issues which can play a really big part in our lives.

I've wanted to write this blog for a month now and decided today is the day to pull my finger out (not from there you dirty burty!) - and if I can help 1 person who shares similar trauma surrounding their body image then I'll be a very happy lady indeed, so here goes...

Here's the T...

So let's get everything out in the open... My body and I haven't been friends for very long, in fact, I spent years abusing it in so many ways. I have starved myself and become painfully thin, binged and have battled with self-harm for the last 11 years BUT the most incredible thing has happened to me this year. I came across a podcast called 'Go Love Yourself' which has been the medicine I never knew I needed in order to accept my body. That's right, not LOVE my body but accept it.

Diet Culture Can Go Suck a D**k

Okay so as you can tell I have a lot of built-up frustration surrounding diet culture and the absolutely ginormous effect it has had on the way we view our bodies. Don't like your wobbly belly? Think your bodies are too skinny? Boobs too small? Or are they too big and not pointing where you want them to? Sit and ask yourself WHY you feel this way. No one ever walked up to me and gave me a list of what I should or shouldn't look like. Yet somehow over the years, I allowed the ugly beast that is diet culture to shape my views on not only my body but all bodies around me.

Magazine articles pinning women up against each other in 'who wore it better?' columns (spoiler alert! It was always the slimmer celebrity...)

Endless images on social media portraying everyday bodies as 'Before pictures' making you feel inadequate if you resemble them yourself

Well-known diets teaching us that we have to 'syn' our food.

I don't think so Satan! My best friend recently quoted a book to me 'we all have our own blend of what wellness looks like' and it's so BLOODY True! Recognising the negative impact diet culture can have on someone's mental health is so vital in order to have a better relationship with our bodies.

The Art of Body Neutrality

Hey - did you know how you look is the least interesting thing about you? No seriously! You have so much more to offer this world than how you look on the outside. This quote is one that I cannot claim as my own as it was created by 2 fabulous women who you will hear on the podcast I referred to earlier on.

You are all undeniably sexy and beautiful but even more than that you are POWERFUL. I've learnt even the most confident people can have days where the negative thoughts surrounding their bodies just won't go away and that's so so normal.

Being 'body positive' all the time is actually one of the MOST unrealistic goals I have ever had. How unachievable is it to be positive ALL the time? Downright impossible I think! But what if there was a grey area in between? A place you can constantly and comfortably stay whilst learning to accept what you see in the mirror. This is called body neutrality, the difficult-to-master art of seeing your body as merely a vessel in which we live.

Body Neutrality For Dummies

Next time you take a look in the mirror have a long hard look at yourself and the different parts of your body. You might not love the look of certain parts but my god are they good at keeping you alive and standing?

We are our own worst critics, but negative thoughts and feelings about our bodies can be so exhausting. I'm not telling you how to think, ultimately it's your body and your choice but I hope the idea resonates with some.

This neutral mindset has allowed me to come out of my shell within the world of kinks, I can accept and allow others to enjoy my body and see it in the positive light that I've never been able to myself

Ultimately the message is you all deserve to live your best life regardless of what you look like and I'm so happy to have found a community to share the love with!

If anyone is interested in the podcast I've mentioned or the book the quote was from I will pop some details below, I'm also only ever a message away if anyone needs to vent about struggles or share positive stories about your Body journeys
